Sally Groves (Chairman)

Sally Groves was Creative Director, London of Schott Music where she was responsible for much of the firm’s contemporary music catalogue until July 2014. In 2013 she was awarded the RPS Lesley Boosey Award honouring champions of new music. She also serves on the RVW Trust and the Michael Tippett Musical Foundation.She was Vice Chair of Sound and Music, a member of the Board of the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and served on The North Music Trust Classical Music Advisory Panel for The Sage, Gateshead.

She was a member of the Board of the Music Publishers Association. She was a member of the Executive Committee of the Society for the Promotion of New Music from 1979–90, becoming its Chairman for the last two years, a director of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra from 1998–2004 and a Governor of the Royal Northern College of Music from 1997–2006, of which she is now an Honorary Member. She was a close friend of the Trust’s founder, Ursula Vaughan Williams.

Joyce Kennedy (Vice Chairman)

Joyce Kennedy is a retired anaesthetist and GP. She is co–author with her husband, the late Michael Kennedy, of The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Music, and author of A Dictionary of Opera Characters and of Opera: The Great Composers and their Masterworks.

Stephen Connock MBE

Stephen Connock was co–founder of the RVW Society and its Chairman from 1994 to 2008. He is editor of The Complete Poems of Ursula Vaughan Williams (Albion Music 2003) and of There was a time... (Albion Music 2003), a collection of photos of Vaughan Williams taken from Ursula’s collection. He is Executive Producer for Albion Records, a label devoted to recording rare RVW and is writing a number of books on Vaughan Williams, including RVW Remembered.

Andrew Dixon

Andrew Dixon is a consultant with Payne Hicks Beach and an experienced charity lawyer. He was Ursula Vaughan Williams’s personal solicitor during her lifetime, and has been involved with the Vaughan Williams estate for over a decade. He now acts both as a trustee and as solicitor to the Vaughan Williams Charitable Trust.

Eva Hornstein

Eva Hornstein knew Ralph and Ursula Vaughan Williams from her earliest days, and later was Ursula’s close friend and neighbour for 18 years. Almost all her working life has been in the world of music.

Arthur Searle

Arthur Searle is a former Curator of Music Manuscripts at the British Library and has been Honorary Librarian of the Royal Philharmonic Society since 1983.

Bernard Watson

Bernie Watson is a Chartered Accountant, holds the Diploma in Charity Accounting and is in professional practice as a partner in haysmacintyre. He has been involved professionally with all types of charities for over 25 years.


Hugh Cobbe OBE

Hugh Cobbe, formerly Head of Music Collections at the British Library, is editor of Letters of Ralph Vaughan Williams 1895–1958. He is Chairman of the RVW Trust, of the National Folk Music Fund and of the Gerald Coke Handel Foundation, and a Past President of the Royal Musical Association.

Michael Kennedy CBE

It is with great regret that we record the death on 31st December 2014 of Michael Kennedy. A journalist and music critic, he had been a close friend of both Ralph and Ursula Vaughan Williams and, having been Chairman of both the RVW Trust and of RVW Ltd and President of the Vaughan Williams Society, he became first Chairman of The Vaughan Williams Charitable Trust in 2008.
